441~Green Smoothie

-8 cups chopped lacinato kale (1 bunch); 1/2 cup chopped carrot; 5 small banana peeled; 4 heaping tbsp goji berries; 2 heaping tbsp cashew pieces; 4 heaping tbsp hemp seeds; 4 heaping tbsp pumpkin seeds; 6 capsules spirulina (-caps); 2 level tsp camu camu powder; 2 level tsp maca powder; 4 level tsp cacao powder; 2 heaping tsp coconut butter; 9 ice cubes; 1  1/2 cup cold and filtered water

Made 1.75 L/7.5 cups

Colour is green

The kale I buy is tied in bunches, and I accidentally washed the whole bunch and then thought…I may as well put it all in the smoothie today and try to get more greens in to the drink.
To really see what this would taste like, it would have been more productive if I didn’t change anything else I typically put in. But I did double the hemp seeds amount. And i’ve doubled the pumpkin seeds amount for a couple of days, and decreased by half the amount of cashews the past few days.
The decrease in cashews was because I was running out of them on the weekend and just wanted to stretch them out to last longer. However, cashews probably give me more fat content than I require…so i’m guessing that reducing them is a good thing. I use them for taste and texture. They thicken the mixture.
Pumpkin seeds I started to use as I heard they could give a nice taste to the mix. I’ve never noticed much difference, so thought this was a good opportunity to double them and see if they do. I’m not noticing anything.
The hemp seeds give a taste I don’t like, but they are loaded with nutrition so doubling those is a great idea to me if it doesn’t ruin the taste.
The kale is one of the most important things I eat. I believe they are packed with nutrients and give me an energy boost.
This drink today tastes a lot like previous ones. And for that past few months while i’ve added more and more greens, the taste in general is not great. But the important thing to me is that it is tolerable. My food is my medicine…to give my body what it needs to take care of itself and prevent health issues. So the taste today is great in that context. I’ve been able to add more greens without compromising on the taste.
I’ve recently started putting goji berries back, and I believe they are an important part of covering up the taste of the kale. They, the bananas, and the cacao are probably the most important. Perhaps the coconut butter is making a difference also. Obviously, everything is making a difference. But I put a lot of stuff in, and I think it is important to remember that not all of it is important to have every day. I’m just being a boring chef and keeping things easy by not having a lot of variety with meals. Finding a way to get a lot of liquified greens, without a lot of sugar and fat…is what i’m trying to do.

The drink is fairly thick and creamy. A bit gritty. Room temperature. I kept the blending time under 2 minutes. I’m tasting the usual bit of cacao and banana.
